Noah and the Big Flood

With time, the descendants of Adam and Eva began to populate the land.

While seeing that t human cruelty was everywhere, and that the people only thought about bad things, God was sad.

And He said: “I created the human race, but now I will destroy it “. However, God was satisfied with Noah, the only fair man of that epoch; a man that obeyed him completely.

God spoke with Noah: “The end of the humanity is near. There is much violence all around. I am going to destroy everything that exists, including people.

Build a wooden ark with enough divisions. Cover it well with tar, on the inside and outside. The chest must have 150 meters of length, 25 of width and 15 of height; make only one door.

You, your wife, your three sons and your daughters-in-law should enter in the ark. Take also a couple of animals of each species; they will live with you. Put in the ark seven pairs of the animals that I sanctified.”

While he built the ark, Noah warned the people: “Who does not honor God will die.” Unfortunately, everyone mocked Noah and laughed at the acknowledgment that God was giving.

Noah and his family had believed in God and, at the right moment, they entered the ark, and the Lord locked the door of the ark.

God ordered rain for 40 days and 40 nights. The water also gushed out from the deep recesses of the earth, and went covering everything. With the ascent of water, the ark started to float.

Finally, the water covered everything on earth, including mounts and, even the mountains.

All the living creature had died. The birds, the cattle, the animals that walked and crawled - everybody drowned in the flood.

The land was covered with water during 150 days. God, however, took care of Noah and those whom were in the ark. God, then, ordered that the wind start to lower the level of the water.

When the ark landed in the mountains of Ararat, and the plants began to grow again, God spoke to Noah. “Go out from the ark, and take away the animals also” and they all left the ark.

Noah built a shrine and offered sacrifices to the Lord. God blessed Noah and his children, saying: “Multiply; have many children and populate the earth. Continue to eat plants, and begin to feed from the meat of animals. Those who kill another human being should be dead.

God promised Noah: “I am making an alliance with you and with your descendants. Never again will he land be destroyed by a flood.

This promise is going to be sealed with an arch in the sky. Whenever it rains, you and I will see the rainbow, and I will remember what I promised”.

Much later after the flood, when the people were still speaking in the same language, many people were living in the plains of the Orient.

On a Certain day, they decided the following: “We are going to build a city and a tower. We will be famous, and we will separate some of the others”.

That was a straight disobedience to the orders of God so that they could spread and populate the earth. In addition, the tower that they planned to build would be a place of adoration to the Sun, to the Moon and to the stars. They decided to worship the creation and not the Creator.

God saw the city and the tower that were being built and said: “The people are one, and everybody speaks the same language; thus, they can do everything that they want. We are going to come down and confuse their words; then some are not going to understand what the other is saying”. And that was what the Lord did, and the construction stopped.

That city received the name “Babel”, that signifies “confusion”, therefore God created different languages, obliging the people to spread all over earth.
