The Divided Family of Cain and AbelEva was pregnant and, when she gave birth to a baby boy, she said: “The Lord gave me a son “She named the child Cain. Later Eva had another son, Abel. Abel decided to be a shepherd of sheep, and Cain chose to be a farmer. On one day chosen for God, Cain congregated some products from his farming and offered them to the Lord. Abel, however, offered a little sheep. God accepted gladly the offer from Abel, but he rejected the offer from Cain. Cain was very angry, and God asked him: “Why you are so angry? God reminded Cain that the sacrifice required the death of an animal. Just as the fig leaves could not cover the sin of Adam and Eva, a sacrifice made with just plants and vegetables, one without blood, could not forgive the sins. God explained to Cain that he had been a rebel upon not offering an animal for sacrifice, and therefore did not listen to God. The Bible says that Abel trusted in God, but Cain did not. God left it clear in the Bible that, without the spilling of blood, there is no pardon of sins. God asked Cain: “Where is your brother?” Cain answered: “I do not know. Am I his guardian?” God insisted: “What is that you have done? The blood of your brother cries out to me. You are going to be cursed in this earth (with alienation) because of Abel’s blood; blood spilled by your hands”. Cain moved away from the presence of the Lord. His revolt against God caused the first murder of the world, and the first division in the family. |
